Morten Olsen back on his feet, Danes bring gifts to Knysna
Good news for Denmark, Olsen is back on his feet, though still sick as he led practice session today.
Morten Olsen had skipped practice on Tuesday because of the illness and it looks like he’s cancelled all his obligations other than running the sessions and other team details in order to try and recover for the Monday game.
In humanitarian news, Denmark came to Knynsa bearing some pretty heavy local investment.
The Danish national team sponsored a new football pitch at the local Percy Mdala High School, some massive local investment, and a youth-based sports development programme like they have in Denmark so young locals can pursue their dreams (so long as they are football related).
The team is also hoping they can visit around the town and meet the locals before they have to travel for their Monday game against the Netherlands.
I’m very proud of our team. It would be fully expected of them to simply arrive and focus first on playing. To spend so much focus on bringing investment and gifts to the township that houses them shows the entire world something about the nature of respect and charity.
And in return, we will know that we will have an entire township cheering us on (unless we end up playing South Africa at any point).
