Gathering the Fellowship

Above: A new Danish player prepares to fight for a spot on the final 23 man squad list

So on Monday, the squad first began to trickle in for the first bit of squad training in Elsinore. Some of the names that made it in on Monday were Jon Dahl Tomasson, Søren Larsen, Thomas Kahlenberg, Thomas Enevoldsen, Lars Jacobsen, Simon Poulsen, and Christian Eriksen along with Jesper Christiansen and Stephan Andersen.

Thomas Sørensen has continued recovery doing some light individual training with the supervision of a chiropractor.

The team was supplemented today with Daniel Jensen and Nicklas Bendtner with Daniel Agger coming in on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the team will scatter with most going home to visit their childhood clubs and primary schools as well as sign autographs at various shopping centers (scroll down to the bottom of this post for autograph locations in case you happen to be in the area) as part of the back to grassroots charity action I mentioned in an earlier post.

This will be followed by them scattering back for an extended weekend together training this upcoming weekend with daily training but not so intensive so they can’t have some social events with their partners and children in Skagen.

Interesting to note, the current media reports say the training session may only include the 26 scheduled for the Senegal friendly, so the 4 additional names noted for the 30 man list may not even be getting the chance to prove themselves on the training ground.

If so, that’s mighty cold Morten Olsen, mighty cold indeed.

Some players have been getting some of their “back to grassroots” actions for the 1GOAL charity done early of course.

Daniel Agger, for instance, has gotten very creative over the weekend and combined the trip to his boyhood club with his own wedding to Sofie Nelson this last Saturday at his hometown Hvidorve.

So congratulations, Daniel, and sorry we had to cut your honeymoon so short.

Some of the arrivals have been messed up so far however, with Dennis Rommedahl already having been delayed owing to the still erupting Long Icelandic Name (official name) Volcano.

Not only could this effect arrivals, but more pressingly, departures, especially the final team departure after the friendly against Senegal.

Other departures it could effect: Mine. I tried to carefully schedule my departure between the set of South Africa friendlies, but that might have been in vain if I end up trapped here by the unending plume of volcanic ash.

Curse you, volcano, curse you.

As promised, the list of 17 of the 30 players’ autograph locations on Thurday June 20th:

William Kvist, Michael Beckmann, and Søren Larsen will be at Sportsmaster in Fields in Amager.

Stephan Andersen and Patrick Mtiliga will be at Intersport in Fredriksberg.

Thomas Kahlenberg and Daniel Jensen will be at Sportsmaster in Fisketorvet in Copenhagen.

Kim Christensen and Michael Krohn-Dehli will be at Sportmaster in Rødovre Centrum in Copenhagen.

Christian Eriksen will be at Intersport in Rosengårdscentret in Odense.

Simon Kjær, Simon Poulsen, and Jakob Poulsen will be at Adidas in Kolding Storcenter.

Per Krøldrup and Michael Silberbauer will be at Adidas in Nytorv in Aalborg.

Thomas Enevoldsen will be at Intersport in Aalborg Storcenter.

Jesper Gronkjær will be at Intersport in Vestergade in Thisted.

I think Denmark are in with a decent chance. They could cause a couple of upsets.
