Danish National Team to Go All the Way Back
From DBU nyheder comes the news that the Danish National Team will be participating in the international campaign, “1 GOAL = Education for All”, by having the 23 players called up for the final Denmark national squad visit their childhood club and their primary school.
The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness of the [...]
A good show: Nicklas Bendtner scores hat-trick for Arsenal
In what will hopefully be a good sign come June, Nicklas Bendtner managed to score 3 of Arsenal’s 5 goals yesterday in Arsenal’s Champion’s League game against FC Porto. This was his first hat-trick wearing the Arsenal shirt and a great show of quality in general.
I wouldn’t say no to him repeating this feat in [...]

Sweden-Denmark: The callups
Saturday… The 6th of June… Råsunda Stadium, Stockholm… Denmark… Sweden… EPIC!
Malta 0 – Søren Larsen 2… Next up: Albania!
Saturday, the tall man did it again. I can imagine that Søren Larsen isn’t the most popular man in Malta right about now. That’s two games in a row against the minnows of group A, and that’s four goals signed by Søren Larsen. Not bad considering Toulouse FC wont play the man. For his sake, [...]

The World Cup 2010 DJ Playlist (Musical Lineup)
(That kid immediately gets some sort of WCB Order of Merit.)
There's going to be a rather large party in South Africa this year. Some call it the World Cup.
But before there can be the real party, there must be another party beforehand. Because it's not really a party unless it's sandwiched by eight other parties of no importance whatsoever. And judging by the musical lineup for the World Cup pre-party, this will be no different. [read more]
FIFA World Cup 2026: Colombia!
There are many things which FIFA isn't very good at. One of them is putting anyone in the organization in front of a microphone, or allowing spilled words onto a page into the hands of the media. Another is running the world's football organization.
So FIFA, after handing this year's World Cup to the country with the second highest per capita murder rate, are looking to outdo themselves by sponsoring a World Cup bid by the world's most dangerous country, Colombia. Hip hip. [read more]
World Cup 2010 National Anthems: South Africa, France, Mexico, Uruguay
Seems like the most popular part of our World Cup 2010 preview podcast was the national anthems segment. I would agree, in that any segment where we're not talking is instantly preferable to the segments where we are. But since those podcasts contain only 10-15 second lyric-less samples, I thought it was worth expanding the idea into a full series of posts about national anthems.
As you hopefully know, the national anthems of each team will be played before every World Cup game, adding to both the atmosphere and the sense of occasion. For this first post, may I present the national anthems of Group A: South Africa, France, Mexico and Uruguay. [read more]
World Cup Moments: Philipp Lahm Kicks Off The World Cup Properly, 2006.
When discussing the history of any sport, any talk of the "greatness" is bound to be met with a quick hop in a time machine, going back into the annuls annals where myth and storytelling often displace fact and reality to the back seat. And this was necessary in a time when most could only follow sport through the words of others; words which were often embellished, contorted, polished, creating an aura which far superseded the event. Similar to the children's game which starts with a simple sentence at one end of the room and morphs into something entirely different by the time the exercise ends.
A lot of times, great moments are much simpler than we think. Sometimes great moments are just that: moments. Moments without grand results, without a decisive impact, without parades, and without babies being made on the streets. Merely a single moment in time meant to be enjoyed. And equally as often, these moments are right underneath our noses. [read more]

The Arrival of Champions League Parity
The brilliance of Lionel Messi, and of Stuttgart allowing him space, has ushered us into the Champions League quarterfinals. Only it doesn't look like the Champions League quarterfinals we're used to. Poor seasons by big clubs, rises to prominence by lesser knowns, difficult first round draws and the occasional curse have ...

Nothing Says "Good Game" Like Homemade Grenades.
[101gg] If you like massive player-fan brawls, bombs being tossed casually into locker rooms and anti-tank weaponry, Brazil is currently your place. A fight broke out on the pitch between Canedense and Vila Nova, which was juicy enough to attract some fans. What was a rough and tumble postgame handshake then ...
Daily Dose: March 17th, 2010 - Happy St. Patrick's Day
To celebrate St. Patrick's Day I offer you this Gaelic football clip as a lead in to the links. This solo run from Galway's Michael Donnellan vs Kildare in the 1998 All-Ireland Final was apparently voted the #1 GAA moment of all time: I won't pretend to know a great deal ...
Champions League Last 16 LiveBlogs: Barcelona vs Stuttgart and Bordeaux vs Olympiacos
It's the tail end of the UEFA Champions League last 16 today. Barcelona had it tough in the first leg, trailing 1-0 away to Stuttgart until Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalized. Bordeaux had a more successful away leg and so face Olympiacos at Stade Chaban-Delmas with a 1-0 lead. Fixtures, with ...
Your Team Out of the Champions League? Feeling Down? Then Read This.
Some big big teams have been knocked out of the Champions League recently. Real Madrid, Chelsea and Milan all exited in the last 16, while both Liverpool and Juventus bowed out after the group stage. Fans of these teams were understandably disappointed, and fans of all but one club will ...
Vagner Love, Not War.
Despite being reigning Brazilian champions, Flamengo and their monster domestic strike force of Adriano and Vagner Love aren't going through the smoothest of patches. Adriano is still fat, still drunk, still dating crazy people and still not showing up for training. Which is fine so long as he sells shirts, ...
David Beckham, Let Me Put My Poems In You.
I know when I've suffered some sort of horrific injury, having a poem penned on me is the only thing which will cure my ails. Unfortunately, I am not David Beckham, so no one writes poems about me (at least not crudely scratched haiku in bathroom stalls). Luckily for David Beckham, ...
